Luke 12:1-59;Psalm 3:1-8

Key Verse: (Luke 12:15)
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”

Hypocrisy vs. Righteousness

By this time according to Luke’s record, the twelve and the seventy-two (or the seventy) had been sent for the reason of gospel. In private with his disciples, Jesus had prophesied his death and resurrection. In public, Pharisees and scribes were perplexed and began to oppose Jesus, while many thousands had gathered to listen to Jesus.

Here comes the warning and encouragement:

Hypocrisy – Outside appeared clean, inside awfully filthy – full of greed and wickedness. Such people killed the prophets and persecuted many; they even conspired and plotted against the anointed one. Woe to them and beware of the wrath of God.

Righteousness – Seeking His kingdom and righteousness, being alerted and faithful – for there’s daily bread provided and heavenly treasure stored. Blessed are them who put trust and take refuge in him.

Lord, thank you for saving us from perish and providing the way to life through your son Jesus. May we all be reminded that we are purchased with a great price and should lead our lives as living sacrifice. May your will be done. May your kingdom come. Amen.
